Maybelline Fit Me Matte vs Dewy Foundation Review

Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Dewy

I have never heard one beauty influencer who never talked about this foundation. I think Maybelline Fit Me Foundation is the most hyped drugstore foundation of all time. I first heard it years ago and the reputation never ceased down. So, I am curious to see whether this foundation is really good. I admit that the matte one is more famous than the dewy one. But, for my dry skin, and sometimes combination, which one is better? Let’s find out.

PACKAGING

Packaging of Maybelline Fit Me

I really hate the packaging of both Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Dewy Foundation. I still can accept their glass bottle, though it is not practical for traveling because it is prone to break, but I really don’t like the fact that it doesn’t have a pump or other applicators. I have to pour the foundation directly from the bottle. And I sometimes pour out too much product and it often gets really messy. The foundation will get all over the bottle. If that happen, I can do nothing except wipe them clean. I can’t put it back since it is not hygienic. I feel that my foundation easily run out due to this condition.

PRICE

The price of this foundation is vary, depends on where we buy it. I purchased the matte one in Lazada for 99.000 IDR as it was on sale. The original price in Lazada is 149.000 IDR. Meanwhile, I bought the dewy one in during sale in Guardian for 115.000 IDR. My point is, you can always buy this foundation while on sale. You just have to be patiently waiting.

SHADE RANGE

Swatch of Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Dewy

For US market, Maybelline offers 40 shades for mattes and 16 shades for dewy. That is pretty amazing for drugstore products. Maybelline has really stepped up its game recently to compete with more high-end brand. However, in Indonesian market, they only offer 16 shades for matte and 10 shades for dewy, as seen from its official website. But, I have never seen all 16 shades sold in any drugstore or online store. Is it because Maybelline foundation sell out very fast? Or is it because the store never provide all shades? I have no idea. Anyway, I made mistake when purchasing Fit Me Matte. I bought the shade that is one tone too dark for me. It is still wearable though. Bear in mind that this foundation oxidizes a bit.

FORMULA

Fit Me Matte:

Maybelline Fit Me Matte Foundation is made for normal to oily skin. Maybelline claims that the lightweight product mattifies and refines pores and leaves natural finish. Maybelline also stated that this foundation is non-comedogenic. For my dry skin, this foundation surprisingly goes on really well. It doesn’t make my skin wrinkly and flaky. It is also true to its claim that it minimizes pores.

Fit Me Dewy:

Maybelline says that the Dewy one is ideal for normal to dry skin as it hydrates and smoothes skin texture and leaves a naturally luminous finish. This type also has SPF 18 for sun protection. It is also non-comedogenic and fragrance-free. On my dry skin, this foundation is still too tacky. It slips and moves everywhere. However, if I set it with powder, the result will not be as dewy.

COVERAGE

Fit Me Matte:

The coverage is medium to full coverage. I can build it up without looking cakey. From afar, I see that my skin is flawless but not flat. I still can see my natural shine from my cheek and tip of the nose. However, when I see up close, I find that the foundation emphasize my little bumps and acne scars. The foundation definitely covers the color of it, but not the texture. The finish is matte and I surprisingly love it.

Fit Me Dewy:

The coverage is medium. I can still see my acne scars if I look into my face closely. I can’t build it up to full coverage because it becomes too wet. For those who have big pores and bumps, I suggest avoid this foundation because it will emphasize them.

HOW I WEAR THEM

Fit Me Matte:

It gives similar result whether to use sponges or brushes. Note that I used the original beauty blender for sponges and Real Technique Expert Face Brush. The foundation applies easily with both tools, but I tend to like using beauty blender more because it applies faster than brushes. The foundation is great even without primer. But, for me, the best combo is to pair this foundation with Benefit Porefessional. Oh my god, the result is amazing. I feel like I have no pores. I wore them for more than 7 hours and it didn’t move. I feel like I don’t have to set it with powder since the foundation dries down by itself. Moreover, I have dry skin. So, setting them with powder makes my face look older and wrinkly. Makeup, such as blush, bronzer, contour, and even liquid highlighter goes on beautifully on top of foundation even when I don’t set it with powder. You can also make it more luminous by dampening the beauty blender or other sponges with setting spray (I use local brand called Pixy). Then, you can apply the foundation with that beauty sponges.

Fit Me Dewy:

It is better to use beauty sponges (I use the original Beauty Blender) with this foundation. Brushes can leave stroke marks when pairing with dewy foundation. Of course I can smooth it down using the sponges afterward, but I think that is too complicated. I have tried several primers with this foundation, such as Benefit Porefessional and Becca First Light Priming Filter, but those primers don’t seem to have an effect. My pores are still visible. On my normal skin, this foundation is still too tacky. I tried setting them with powder, but it make them too heavy. After all, I have never like a powdered face. It makes me look old. So, for me, the key to wear this foundation is to use as little as possible. It doesn’t give me great coverage, but it will even out skin tone. This way, my face looks fresh and has a healthy glow with so much tackiness. However, it is still not transferproof.

LONGEVITY

Fit Me Matte:

It lasts more than 12 hours in my face. I didn’t wear primer and setting spray at that time. Even in my dry skin, this foundation is not flaky. But, it will transfer anywhere all day.

Fit Me Dewy:

If I wear it on full coverage, it doesn’t last long on my face. I rubbed off especially on my nose and chin. My cheek is also greasy all day long. And I can’t stand how it transfer everywhere.

CAN I MIX THEM

Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Dewy

Well, I have tried mixing them. It looks really great upon application, because it still looks dewy but not as tacky. However, by the end of the day, it looks horrible. My foundation is going all over the place. It transfers badly to any object that touch my skin, leaving empty marks on my face. So, I guess mixing them is not a great option.

FLASH TEST

Flash Test of Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Dewy

As we can see from the pictures, both foundation do not flash back. It also doesn’t leave a white cast. So I guess it is great for photo session.

CONCLUSION

I choose Fit Me Matte all the way. At first I thought I would like the dewy one more because I am fond of Korean glass skin, rather than a matte look. But, surprisingly the Fit Me Matte can also achieve that look without greasy feeling. Yes it looks matte upon application, but after it melts into my skin, it becomes luminous and radiant. I love it. One of the best affordable foundation out there. I rate Fit Me Matte 4.5 out of 5. I gave minus 0.5 for its packaging and not being transfer-proof. While the Fit Me Dewy, I hate it if I wear it on full coverage, but I love it if I wear just a little amount. It is kinda love hate relationship. So, I rate it only 3 out of 5.
