First of all, I’d like to say sorry for the delay. I know that it has been too long since I first posted this series. I apologize if there is anyone ever, if any, who have been waiting for this post. So, in this second episode, I will give you my thoughts on five beauty products that I have tried on my skin for at least a month. I love most of them, but some are just so so. Without further ado, here’s my review.
1. Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm
I purchased this cleansing balm at Sephora Bandung because at that time I forgot to bring my first cleanser. It was my sister who introduced me to this product. I admit that it is not cheap, but I thought, their small sizes are actually quiet affordable. It costs IDR 120.000 for 15 ml. It can last up to a month since we only need a dime for an application. I am glad that I took my sister advice because this cleanser is amazing.
This cleansing balm is mainly made from Ethylhexyl Palmitate , Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, and Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride. Ethylhexyl Palmitate is a derivative of palm oil. It is usually used to replace silicone, which I am allergic to. Every time I use a product containing silicone, my face will break out or itchy. It contains no parabens, no phthalates, and no fragrance so that it is suitable for sensitive skin, like me.
The texture of this cleanser is very similar to balm, like tiger balm that we use to relieve the pain. This solid balm will transform quickly into oil as it touches our skin. It dissolve our makeup, even some waterproof makeup. I use this as a first cleanser. So, at the end of the day, I started my night skincare routine by applying this cleansing balm into my face. I really only need a pea size to dissolve my entire makeup, including eyes. However, it needs more product if I use stubborn waterproof mascara. It doesn’t sting my eyes, but it will make my eyes a bit cloudy if I don’t wash it thoroughly. So, I prefer to use a point makeup remover for my mascara. After I put this cleansing balm on my face, I rinse it off. Even though it is basically oil, I don’t feel greasy and oily after I rinse it off with only water. But, to get a clean face, I have to use second cleanser, which is usually a facial foam. Amazingly, my face still feels moist even after using foam cleanser. It is because this cleansing balm. I love it and definitely will purchase the big size over and over again.
2. Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser
This is one of the overhyped cleanser in Indonesia. At first, I hesitated to try because I believed that most overhyped products were famous because of their great marketing, not because their products are great. But, I was wrong on this one. This cleanser is very gentle on my sensitive skin, yet works well to clean my face. I purchased this very small one that contains only 29 ml in Watsons Thailand for 65 baht (IDR 30.000). I don’t think I have seen this very small bottle of Cetaphil anywhere. It says that it is exclusively sold in Watsons. I love that they have this size because it is very easy to travel with. Plus, if I ran out of it, I just have to refill it.
This cleanser is made with only few ingredients. They are Water, Cetyl Alcohol, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Stearyl Alcohol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, and Butylparaben. Cetaphil says that they make this product as gentle as it gets that it is gentle enough for a baby’s delicate skin. This cleanser is soap-free formula. So, don’t expect to get foam or bubbles while washing your face with this product.
I use this product as my second cleanser. I pour it to my hand, add a little water, then I rub it to my wet face. Sometimes I use my Foreo, usually once or twice a week, to better cleanse my face. Foreo and Cetaphil is a great pair because this cleanser doesn’t get foamy. It stays slippery so that the Foreo can glide on the face. All and all, I like this product but I don’t wow by it. This product is just aimed to cleanse, not to treat. So, it can’t cure acnes, but it can prevent them. Will I get the bigger bottle? Yes, because I think it is non irritant so that I can wear it while my skin is getting really sensitive.
3. Son & Park Beauty Water
Who doesn’t know about this product? I think every K-beauty lover have known or tried it. I bought it of course because of the rave. Because I was afraid that the product won’t do well to my skin, I decided to purchase the small one. It costs IDR 55.000 for 60 ml on an online store called Belanja Mimo. Because the product is practically water, it runs out very fast because my skin drinks it.
This product is made from Water and Rose Flower Water. It also contains some ingredients that are known good to skin. They are Willow Bark Extract, Papaya Extract, Witch Hazel Water, and Tea Tree Leaf Extract. Rose water gives hydration to skin while willow bark exfoliates dead skin. Meanwhile, tea tree keeps acne at bay. The scent of this beauty water is really strong, but I kinda love it. I can’t explain what kind of smell it is, but it is very calming.
Son & Park explains this product as cleanser as well as toner. It is confusing to hear that this product exfoliates while also moisturizes. It seems like it is impossible. And I think that it really is impossible. As much as I love this product, I don’t find that it is exfoliating. But yes it is very moisturizing. I always wear it as a toner, right after cleansing my face with facial foam. I also prefer to use it with my hand, rather than using cotton pad. So, after cleansing, I pour this beauty water to my hand, then I tap it to my face. Then, I proceed with essence. I also love using this beauty water for CSM. I pour the beauty water to compressed sheet mask that I purchased from Miniso until it got drenched. After that, I put it on my face for 10-15 minutes. I really feel moisturizes after that. I really recommend this toner.
4. SKII Facial Treatment Essence
Isn’t it one of the longest best-selling facial essence in the world? I have known this products many many years ago. It was famous back then. And now, this facial essence is still best-seller. What’s so good about it? I wanted to try but the price always turn me down. Is it a good investment on skin to splurge on more than a million IDR essence? Luckily, I found this sample size on Sasa Hong Kong for 138 HKD (IDR 248.000). Yes, it is still pricey, but at least it is better to try the small size first rather than buying the big one.
So.. This facial essence is made from Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate, Butylene Glycol, Pentylene Glycol, Water, Sodium Benzoate, Methylparaben, and Sorbic Acid. Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate is also known as Pitera. SKII explains that Pitera consists of 50 micro-nutrients like vitamins, minerals, amino acids and organic acids to condition skin’s natural functions. Because it is fermented, its scent is similar to yeast. I’ve got to be honest that it is not pleasant to smell.
I tried using this product right after cleansing and before toner. I pour some of the products to my hand, then I tap it to my face. I also try to depot the content into a spray bottle so that it is easier to apply to my face. Spraying it directly to my face is the most pleasant application because it really soothe my skin. After using it for a week, I can see that my face is getting brighter and smoother. But then, after two weeks I started getting itchy rash on my right cheek. I freaked out. Is it because of this SKII? Am I allergic to it? I don’t know, but I immediately stopped the usage and I am back to my usual skincare routine. After three days, my skin was normal again.
I started to think that I got a fake product from Sasa. So, I decided to buy the essence from SKII counter in Lotte Shopping Avenue Indonesia. I bought the Pitera Set for IDR 958.000. But, I got similar result. It was great for the first week, but then it got worse. Well, should I try using it with cotton pad? To be honest, I haven’t tried applying it with cotton pad because I think it is such a waste. Many products will be left in the cotton pad. Maybe I’ll try it later since I still have half products left.
5. Muji Moisturising Milk Moisture
I was so happy when I saw Muji Indonesia carried their skincare line. I had heard many good things about it. I immediately purchase the small size of their Moisturising Milk Moisture because I ran out of moisturizer. It cost IDR 60.000 for 50 ml of products. I think it is a decent price for this product. I bought it from Muji Grand Indonesia.
This moisturizer is made from Aqua, Dipropylene Glycol, Glycerin, Squalane, Castor Oil, and Olive Fruit Oil. Muji explains that they create their skincare line by focusing on the water that they choose as the main ingredients. It says that the natural water drawn from caves in Kamaishi, Iwate is ultra-soft with nearly the same pH as tears, and seeps right into your skin.
I use this product as moisturizer for morning skincare routine, which is after serum and before sunscreen. However, I got a mixed feeling about this moisturizer. I don’t think that it easily sinks right into my skin. I have to wait for at least 3 minutes or more. Moreover, when the weather gets hot and I am sweating, it is hard to apply the moisturizer because this product will mix with my sweat and create a slippery layer on my skin. I don’t know why it happens to me since my skin is normal to dry. So, I guess I won’t purchase the big bottle. However, in term of the formula, it has the job done on moisturizing my face all day. But, it is as simple as that. It doesn’t have any more benefit than moisturizing face.
